Dubai Run 2024: A Celebration of Unity, Determination, and Accessible Fitness – The Magalogue Magazine

Dubai Run 2024 transformed the iconic Sheikh Zayed Road into a vibrant fitness arena, uniting thousands of participants on Sunday, November 24, regardless of age or ability. From toddlers to people of determination, the event showcased the power of community and inclusivity in fitness.
Indian expat Amardeep Monteiro, living with polio, experienced her first Dubai Run with immense joy. “For years, I thought I had to run, but learning I could walk encouraged me to participate. The energy is incredible,” she shared, using walking support to join the event. Having resided in the UAE for over 35 years, Amardeep reflected on the inspiring atmosphere: “Amid global turmoil, seeing thousands come together as one family fills me with hope and happiness. I plan to return next year with my family.”

At the helm of this energetic event was Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s Crown Prince, who participated alongside the enthusiastic crowd. Wearing the blue bib numbered 003, Sheikh Hamdan, fondly known as Fazza, joined the 10km route among runners donning green jerseys. The event cemented Dubai’s reputation as a hub for health and wellness.

For many, the Dubai Run is a cherished family tradition. Filipina expat Jean and her 5-year-old son Kalem, a wheelchair user, returned for their second run. “Kalem loved the energy last year,” Jean shared. “Seeing other children of determination participating made us feel part of a unique community.” Their journey to the starting line involved a 45-minute walk, which Jean described as “a great experience.”

Participants traveled from across the UAE to join the event. Abu Dhabi resident Siddique and his family arrived in Dubai the night before, eager to be part of the occasion. “We slept for just an hour and made it to the starting line by 5 am,” he said. “This event is unmissable for my family. The vibe is unmatched.”
Marking the conclusion of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC), the Dubai Run embraced a festive ambiance with skydiving stunts, paragliders, and aerial acrobatics. Mounted police officers ensured safety, much to the delight of 2-year-old Kabir Hemani. “His father tells him stories about horses on Sheikh Zayed Road, and now he believes they’re real,” joked his mother, Zahra.

Participants had the option of two picturesque routes. The 5km Downtown course, ideal for families and beginners, showcased landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Opera. Alternatively, the more demanding 10km route crossed Dubai Canal Bridge and looped back to DIFC’s Gate Building.
The metro played a pivotal role in facilitating access to the event, with early morning services ensuring participants reached on time. British expat Hana Taha, 61, praised the convenience: “The metro was packed at 5:30 am, but it was better than driving. The energy here is extraordinary.”
For some, the run was an opportunity to celebrate heritage. Filipina expat June and her 13-year-old niece, Iya, participated in wearing a traditional Salakot hat to honor June’s father. “This hat belonged to him. Running with it reminds me of his hard work as a farmer and fisherman,” she said.
Even the youngest participants, like one-year-old Ellie, found joy in the experience. Her mother Chin shared, “Ellie loves being outdoors. She stops to wave at people or explore. It’s a memory we’ll cherish.”

Dubai Run 2024 once again proved that fitness transcends barriers, bringing together people of all backgrounds to celebrate unity, determination, and health. As the city continues to champion accessible fitness, participants eagerly anticipate next year’s event, ready to once again turn Sheikh Zayed Road into a beacon of hope and vitality.
